Temple art defines Odisha's craft identity — scroll painting, appliqué canopies, and silver filigree all traditionally made in service of Jagannath's rituals at Puri.
राज्य अनुसार कला · State-wise Art
Much of Odisha's best-known craftwork grew directly out of temple need: Pattachitra scroll painters and Pipli's appliqué artisans both traditionally supplied items for Jagannath temple ritual, already covered in this site's Tirtha & Devalaya chapter, before either craft expanded into a wider commercial market.
The state's textile tradition is equally distinct: Sambalpuri ikat weaving is among India's most technically demanding, while Cuttack's silver filigree work, tarakasi, remains one of the finest metal crafts practiced anywhere in the country.
