Bamboo, cane, and a rare golden silk unique to the region run through the Northeast's craft identity, shaped by a landscape unlike anywhere else covered on this site.

Assam's golden muga silk and woven japi sun hats sit alongside a wider regional tradition of bamboo construction and weaving found in different forms across Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and the other northeastern states, each with its own textile motifs and community-specific patterns.
Naga shawls, Manipuri Moirang Phee weaving, and Mizo puan cloth each carry meaning specific to the community that weaves them, a level of textile diversity packed into a comparatively small region that remains, even within India, among the least widely documented outside its own states.
