Kashmir's craft tradition runs from the valley's high-altitude wool to its walnut forests, each shaped by centuries of Central Asian trade contact.

Pashmina shawls, hand-spun from Himalayan goat wool, and richly detailed papier-mâché work stand alongside Kashmir's walnut wood carving, three crafts that together trace a Central Asian craft influence absorbed into a distinct regional style over centuries.
Sozni needle embroidery and kani weaving further embellish the region's finest pashmina pieces, and Srinagar remains the center where most of these crafts, wool, wood, and paper alike, continue to be practiced by specialist artisan families today.
