Craft & Origins

Traditionally painted by Warli tribal women using rice-paste white pigment on walls freshly coated in red mud or cow dung, the style builds human and animal figures from basic geometric shapes, circles for heads, triangles for bodies, depicting harvest, marriage, and daily village life rather than deities or myth.

आज कहाँ जीवित है

Where It Lives Today

The tarpa dance, a circular community dance around a musician, is among the style's most recognizable recurring images, and Warli art, like Madhubani, has moved from ritual wall painting into a widely recognized commercial art form sold on paper and cloth today.
