A blind poet-saint whose Krishna bhakti poetry, the Sursagar, is counted among the richest devotional literature dedicated to Krishna's childhood.
१६वीं शताब्दी · 16th century CE
Tradition holds Surdas was blind from birth or an early age, yet composed thousands of padas, devotional songs, so vivid in visual detail that many devotees have doubted the tradition's account of his blindness.
The Sursagar's verses on the young Krishna's mischief in Vraj remain widely sung in Krishna bhakti circles, particularly around Janmashtami, and Surdas is counted among the Ashtachhap, eight poet-disciples of the Vallabhacharya Pushtimarg tradition.
