Craft & Origins

Rajasthani miniature painting developed across several royal courts, each forming its own school: Mewar's paintings favor bold color and courtly scenes, Bundi and Kota are known for hunting scenes set in dense forest, and Kishangarh is famous for its elongated-eyed Bani Thani portraits, with religious subjects, Krishna's life among the most common, running through nearly all of them.

Where It Lives Today

Udaipur and Jaipur remain centers where artists continue the technique on paper using fine squirrel-hair brushes and natural pigments, and miniature reproductions of Rajasthani court paintings remain among the state's most recognized art exports today.
