Food first offered to a deity and then distributed to devotees — turning a meal into a shared act of grace rather than a private one.
खान-पान · Khan-Pan
After being ritually offered (bhog) to a deity during worship, food is considered sanctified and is then shared among everyone present as prasad, grace — the same food that reaches an altar in a home shrine or major temple, like several already covered in this site's Tirtha & Devalaya chapter, eventually reaches every devotee's hand.
Certain temples are famous for a specific prasad, the laddu at Tirupati among the best known, and offering or receiving prasad, however small, is treated as a central part of temple visits and home worship alike, not a side detail of it.
