'Flower work' — Punjab's signature embroidery, worked from the reverse side of the cloth in long, floss-silk darning stitches that build dense geometric and floral fields.

Traditionally embroidered by women on hand-spun cotton (khaddar) using untwisted silk floss thread, phulkari is worked from the cloth's back so the embroiderer builds the pattern without seeing the front directly, with bagh, a denser variant covering the entire cloth surface, considered the style's most elaborate form.
Traditionally made as part of a bride's trousseau, phulkari today carries Geographical Indication recognition and remains widely worn as shawls and dupattas across Punjab, alongside contemporary use on bags and home textiles.
