Karnataka's craft identity runs from a single toy-making town to fragrant sandalwood carving and the blackened silver inlay of Bidriware.

Channapatna's lacquered wooden toys and Mysore's sandalwood carving both center on wood as their raw material, yet produce entirely different objects, one playful and colorful, the other fine devotional relief work prized for its fragrance.
Bidriware, from Bidar in the state's north, rounds out Karnataka's craft range with a metal tradition found almost nowhere else in the country, blackened alloy inlaid with fine silver wire.
