कथा व भूमिका

Story & Role

Born to Kunti before her marriage through a boon that summoned the sun god Surya, Karna is set adrift on a river and raised by a charioteer's family, growing into a formidable archer whose low birth excludes him from the recognition his skill would otherwise earn, until Duryodhana, defying convention, crowns him a king to secure his friendship and loyalty.

Significance

Karna learns of his true parentage from Krishna and Kunti herself only shortly before the war, and chooses to honor his loyalty to Duryodhana over his birth family regardless, fighting and eventually dying at Arjuna's hands without either brother fully knowing the other the way the epic lets its audience know them both.
