Kundan setting and meenakari enamel work — two closely related jewelry techniques, often practiced together, that have adorned royal and bridal wear for centuries.
जयपुर, राजस्थान · Jaipur, Rajasthan
Kundan setting embeds refined gold foil around a gemstone or glass piece without claws or prongs, while meenakari fires colored enamel onto a metal surface, traditionally on the reverse of a kundan piece so a single item shows brilliant stonework on one face and painted enamel on the other.
Jaipur remains the best-known center for both crafts today, and bridal jewelry across much of North India, worn as part of the same wedding customs already covered in this site's Jeevan Shaili chapter, still draws heavily on kundan-meenakari work passed down through specialist artisan families.
