Craft & Origins

Made from a dough of ground quartz stone, glass powder, and multani mitti rather than clay, the technique originated in Persia and Central Asia and arrived in India through Mughal-era craft exchange, taking distinct root in Jaipur under royal patronage that gave the ware its now-signature cobalt-and-white palette.

आज कहाँ जीवित है

Where It Lives Today

The craft nearly disappeared in the 20th century before a revival effort reestablished workshops in Jaipur, which remains the ware's only significant production center today, holding Geographical Indication recognition for the technique.
