The vanara devotee whose leap to Lanka, discovery of Sita, and burning of Ravana's city make him one of the Ramayana's most beloved figures — already met at his own shrine in this site's Tirtha chapter.
रामायण · Ramayana
Son of the wind god Vayu, Hanuman commands abilities of size-changing and flight that let him leap across the strait to Lanka in search of Sita, where he finds her in the Ashoka Vatika, delivers Rama's ring as proof, and allows himself to be captured and set alight, only to use his own burning tail to set fire to the city before escaping.
His devotion to Rama, epitomized by the image of him tearing open his own chest to reveal Rama and Sita enshrined within his heart, has made him one of the most widely worshipped figures across the subcontinent, with Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya, already covered in this site's Tirtha & Devalaya chapter, among his most visited shrines.
