A sage famed, and feared, for a temper quick to curse, appearing at pivotal moments across the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavata Purana.
दिव्य ऋषि · Divine Sage
Tradition holds Durvasa a son of Atri and Anasuya, born of Shiva's portion in some accounts, whose short patience with any perceived disrespect led him to curse gods, kings, and sages alike throughout Puranic literature.
His most consequential curse in the Mahabharata falls on Shakuntala, causing her husband Dushyanta to forget her — a story later dramatized by Kalidasa in Abhijnanashakuntalam, one of classical Sanskrit literature's most celebrated plays.
