Madhubani painting moved from the walls and floors of Mithila homes onto paper from the 1960s onward, and entire villages in the region are now substantially organized around the craft's practice and sale.
Sikki grass weaving, used to make baskets, boxes, and decorative figures from a fine golden grass native to the region, and Manjusha art, a narrative painting style tied to local legend, add further regional craft traditions less widely known outside the state.
